
Dr. Mahendran Botlagunta
Dean (R&D)
He obtained his doctoral degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur and pursued postdoctoral research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Currently, he serves as Professor of Biotechnology and Dean of Research and Development at Guru Nanak University, Hyderabad.
With over 20 years of experience in leading engineering institutions, he has previously held the positions of Associate Professor and Assistant Dean (Research) for four years at VIT Bhopal University. He also served as a Chief Scientific Officer and R and D manager at Health Care Industry. He is an internationally recognized cancer biologist with specialized expertise in clinical data analysis using Python programming. A pioneer in the development of machine learning models for computer-aided cancer diagnosis systems, he has successfully supervised four doctoral candidates to completion.
He is a recipient of one of the prestigious Research Awards for Teachers conferred by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India. In addition, he has completed several sponsored research projects funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. Under his mentorship, two women scholars have been awarded grants through the Women Scientist Scheme (WoS), a flagship initiative of the Government of India.
He has authored over 55 research papers published in peer-reviewed national and international journals. He was also selected as a reviewer for an AICTE technical textbook aligned with the AICTE model curriculum on Python Programming for second-year diploma programs. He is a life member of the Indian Society of Nanomedicine.
